Installation of dental implants

Dental implants are fundamentally different from other methods of dental restoration. If restoration with crowns or bridges requires tooth roots, then implantation is performed even in the absence of roots.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a two-part structure – a screw-shaped pin that structurally replaces the root of the tooth and an artificial imitation of the tooth that is installed on the pin. Ultimately, implants look like real teeth, while functioning no worse than real ones. Dental implantation is a procedure in which missing tooth roots are duplicated with metal screw-shaped pins, followed by the installation of artificial teeth.

Types of implants

Conventionally, types of implants can be divided into two directions – by shape and installation method. The division by shape takes into account the current state of the oral cavity and the peculiarity of its structure, based on this, the types of implants can be as follows:

  • Root-shaped. It is similar to the natural root of a tooth with a threaded pin part for screwing into the jaw. It is necessary for jaws with normal bone thickness.
  • Lamellar. In appearance, this is a plate with a pin part. This type is intended for jaws with a small thickness of bone tissue.
  • Basal. In appearance, it is a T-shaped structure with the ability to screw into deeper bone layers of the jaw. This type of implant is intended for jaws with a large thickness of bone tissue.
  • Endodontic. It is installed with a normal tooth root and serves more to strengthen the tooth structure. Recently, doctors have been trying to avoid this type of implantation, since the risks of complications are more likely than you would like.

During a consultation at the clinic, the doctor will examine you and determine which type of implants is right for you. Dental implants are also differentiated by the installation principle:

  • One-stage. The doctor drills a hole for the pin and installs a non-separable structure. A temporary prosthesis is installed after a few days. If there are no problems or complications, a permanent dental prosthesis is installed.
  • Two-stage. It differs from the one-stage in that at first the pin is implanted into the bone tissue. And only after the wound has healed, the dental prosthesis is installed on the pin.
  • Direct installation of the implant after tooth extraction. The implant is placed in the socket of the extracted tooth, but this method is not very good due to the gaps between the pin and the size of the socket, which can cause problems over time.
  • Delayed implantation. Unlike the previous method, time is given for the socket to heal and the periosteum to recover. Only then is the implant installed. The process can take several months.
Which implants are better?

In the previous section, we found out that the type and method of installing implants is a strictly individual concept and it is impossible to define the concept of “better”. However, there are differences in the designs and materials of leading global brands, for example:

  • Mis is an Israeli manufacturer that positions itself on a purer titanium composition and various connection options.
  • Bicon is an American manufacturer, the design of the prostheses has the narrowest cone in the connection. The connection of the prosthesis with the bone tissue is considered the most hermetic.
  • Ankylos is a system that is famous for the stability of internal connections, especially the stability of the bone around the prosthesis pins.
  • Osstem, Megagen are manufacturers of high-quality prostheses that can be interchanged.
  • Straumann is a Swiss manufacturer. Currently the most expensive on the market.

Branded implants have not only their advantages, but also disadvantages. However, you should focus more on the experience of your attending physician. Firstly, he may not have experience working with a particular system or may be a “fan” of one of them. Or he may have equal experience working with many systems. In any case, you depend on two components – the experience of the doctor and your individual characteristics.

When is implantation recommended?

Even when a single tooth is missing, it is worth considering the implantation procedure, otherwise the functionality of the dental and jaw system is disrupted. Implantation is recommended in the following cases:

  • partial or even complete absence of teeth in the patient,
  • absence of at least one tooth or its defects that cannot be restored by other means,
  • intolerance to dentures – the presence of allergic reactions to the material of the dentures – acrylates,
  • terminal defect of the jaw – the absence of the last in the row of chewing teeth.

Dental implantation procedure

Before your treatment, you will need to:

  • Have a complete dental exam: This may include dental x-rays and 3D images, as well as models of your teeth and jaw.
  • Give your doctor your medical history: Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions and medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
  • If you have certain heart conditions or orthopedic implants, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics before surgery to prevent infection.

Create a treatment plan: tailored to your situation and takes into account several factors, such as:

1. Number of teeth

2. Condition of jaw bones

3. Remaining teeth

The implantation process

Step 1 – Titanium Post The dentist makes a hole in the jaw bone during the dental implant procedure and places a post into the jaw bone. This post will be the foundation for the artificial tooth. A temporary tooth is placed on top of the titanium post to cover the hole until the next session.

Step 2 – Bone Growth Once the titanium post is implanted in the jaw, the bone begins to grow around it, during this process the jaw bone fuses with the implanted post, and this process takes some time to form a strong foundation for the artificial crown until it becomes one with the natural root system of the teeth.

Step 3 – Abutment After the bone healing process, there will be another session to place the abutment, which is the part to which the crown will be attached. This is a simple procedure that the doctor performs under local anesthesia.

Contraindications

Poor blood clotting, epilepsy, acute mental illness, decreased immunity, syphilis, tuberculosis, diabetes, connective tissue diseases, severe rheumatism, malignant neoplasms, diseases of the mucous membrane, chronic fungus in the mouth, periodontitis and periodontosis with deep bone damage.

Prices for dental implants in Turkey vary depending on the brand of implant used, the number of implants and the quality of the crown, but generally range from 400 to 1000 EUR per implant. The package price includes the following services:

  1. Meeting at the airport,

Correct Care

Like any surgery, dental implants come with some health risks, but they are rare, and even if they do occur, they are easily treated. Risks include:

  • infection of surrounding structures,
  • damage to surrounding structures,
  • nerve damage,
  • problems with the sinuses in the upper jaw.

All of these symptoms can usually be avoided with proper care after implant surgery:

  • good oral hygiene,
  • rinsing your mouth regularly,
  • avoiding smoking and alcohol,
  • avoiding foods and drinks high in sugar.
