Memorial Şişli Hospital began rising on the European side of Istanbul with the support of ECRI, the most renowned healthcare consultancy firm in the United States. This was not just a hospital complex but the future of Turkey in the field of medicine.

The construction of Memorial Şişli Hospital, whose name became synonymous with trust and leadership, was completed in approximately three years. Equipped with the most advanced technology of its time, which an international medical institution should possess, Memorial Şişli Hospital welcomed its first patient in February 2000.

Just two years after its opening, Memorial Şişli Hospital received the JCI (Joint Commission International) Accreditation Certificate, becoming the first in Turkey and the 21st in the world to be awarded this certificate, which represents the global standard for quality healthcare services.

Occupying a closed area of 53,000 m², Memorial Şişli Hospital has a 252-bed capacity. Directions of work

Reproductive medicine and IVF

Due to the high success rates after the procedures (up to 65%), the center is popular among most foreign patients. The following procedures are available:

  • classical IVF
  • ICSI – 95% success rate. Doctors perform this procedure mainly for male infertility, if the man’s sperm are low-motility. During ICSI, the reproductive specialist selects the most active sperm and injects it into the egg with a special thin needle.
  • IMSI – fertilization by micro-injection. The procedure is similar to ICSI, the only difference is that the doctor uses a more powerful microscope.
  • cryopreservation of sperm, eggs and embryos

In addition, preimplantation genetic diagnostics is available for future parents at the hospital. Thanks to screening, parents can be sure that their child does not have hereditary diseases or developmental disorders. The procedure is carried out in each case, but it is especially relevant for people with genetic pathologies that can affect the bearing of a child. Diagnostics are also recommended for already born children with deviations.

Review of My Check-Up on January 29 Chaotic and Confusing Process As a foreigner, understanding the hospital’s process was extremely difficult. There was no clear guidance, and each examination required me to visit a different department. Each time, I had to report to reception for the next referral, making the experience disorganized and frustrating. A route map or structured program would have been very helpful, but none was provided. Lack of Patient Care and Communication While I do not question the expertise of the doctors, the time spent informing patients was minimal. It felt like everyone was in a rush, prioritizing speed over patient understanding. There was no effort to explain procedures or findings properly, making the experience impersonal and unhelpful. Extremely Poor Dental Department My biggest disappointment was with the dental department. The issues included: • A very brief and insufficient examination of my teeth, missing important concerns. • Shortly after an X-ray, my composite filling fell out, and no solution was provided. • When I requested a reasonable form of compensation, the dentist was understanding, but management dismissed my concerns completely in an unprofessional manner. Further Issues with the Dental Appointment • I scheduled an appointment to have a new composite filling placed. However, despite my appointment, I had to wait 45 minutes due to “busyness.” • After the procedure, I pointed out that the composite did not match my other teeth. Instead of working towards a reasonable solution, the dentist insisted I was wrong rather than addressing my concern. Lack of Customer Service and Follow-Up • I requested an English translation of my medical results, and I was told that I would receive an email within 24 hours. However, I never received anything. This shows a complete lack of follow-through on their commitments. • I also expressed my concerns via WhatsApp on January 30, yet I have not received any response. This lack of communication shows a clear disregard for patient feedback. Based on my experience, I strongly discourage others from visiting this hospital. The chaotic organization, lack of patient care, poor dental services, dismissive management, and failure to follow through on promised communication made this an unacceptable experience. I expected professional service but received substandard treatment instead.

Before surgery: I had chosen Memorial because they had guaranteed to me that they will handle all appointments/transfers/etc. My first day here for pre op and I’m already losing faith in their abilities. I came early but wasn’t able to meet with my doc until 1 hour after my appointment time. My appointment ended at 11:20 , I asked if the transfer could be brought earlier since it was set up for 12 originally; I was told yes then didn’t receive any follow up and they didn’t answer my 3 calls. It is now 12:20, and we are still waiting for our transfer. We have been waiting for an hour. 12:40 pm The transfer picks us up but says that the destination can not be changed even though it is the same distance. The driver is incredibly rude. The day of surgery; Our transfer is supposed to pick us up at 10am. We are at the hotel door at 10am and we get a call saying the transfers are busy so we need to take a taxi. We get in a taxi that doesn’t bring us all the way to the drop off area so we haul our luggage ourselves. We message our “coordinator” that we have arrived and wait 30min in the lobby. Post operation: My “coordinator” came once after my surgery to ask how I was (I was drowsy from anesthesia) and didn’t apologize once for all of the countless problems. I was told an hour ago that I could be discharged from the hospital so I let my coordinator know we’d need a transfer to our hotel in two hours since I’m still hooked up with needles in my hand and we still need my prescriptions brought. She tells me that she will call the transfer people and if there is a car available, I should be ready in 15-20min. Considering I can’t pull out the needle or force them to bring my meds quickly, this would be impossible. Then she asks if I’m staying at Urban hotel (I am not) which makes me once again dissatisfied and disappointed in Memorials ability in administrative duties and general care. Also, during my first call with my first coordinator, I was told that everything was included and would be thought of for me however I just charged 1.950tl for a second corset. They didn’t consider I would need to be wearing on while the other is getting washed/dried. Seriously regret believing Memorial. One week post op: The hospital asked me to reach out to them due to my review. They said they take these things very seriously and that they will do everything in their power to make the rest of our experience better… then the next day they did the same things as before. We will be waiting for hours at the hospital as they are “out of cars” for transfers. So much more happened that I’m too tired to type it all out right now but I will soon because I genuinely don’t want others to experience the same things with this hospital.

I recommend this hospital especially to foreigners. They had a friendly translator to accompany me in all stages, the process was very fast, and the Dr took good care of my wound and the clean and well designed ambience made me feel at ease. Although the price is higher but it's worth it.

A beautiful, state of the art hospital with a good VIP package for international patients. However, there are lots of problems with it. The overall service is not great, and the hospital has lots of expensive hidden charges that you should be aware of. We ended up spending x3 our initial budget, because they made us pay for extras we didn’t know about until after. The doctors and interpreters will depend on your luck on the day & communication isn’t the best. I had high hopes but very disappointed with the way they try and make money from vulnerable patients.

I recommend despite the price increase but the hematology service is well worth it, I thank "Pr Batül" very much for his professionalism without forgetting the translator "Hacene" who is incredibly kind, very helpful, very professional, always available and very attentive with patients, my daughter loves him very much in fact only he could convince her to eat during her period of chemotherapy, the only one who could make her smile, the only one with whom my daughter spoke during her isolation, He always cheered us up, he always gave us up, We will never stop thanking him, we will never forget you "Hacene"! May God protect you and give you strength for other patients 🙏
