Areas of Expertise

Oncological surgery

Our department specializes in the surgical treatment of cancer. Cancer is a complex disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and pathology, both in the diagnostic phase and during treatment. In addition to surgical tumor removal, oncologic surgeons perform palliative surgeries aimed at pain control, improving the quality of life for patients, and managing symptoms and side effects associated with cancer. Oncologic surgeons are involved not only in treatment but also in the diagnosis of cancers, which, if detected early, can be completely cured. Cancer surgeries should be performed by surgeons who have specialized expertise in this field. Research shows that surgical treatment performed by experienced oncological surgeons using a multidisciplinary approach improves patient survival and quality of life. In our general surgery department, surgical oncology specialists treat tumors of the breast and thyroid, stomach, pancreas, large intestine, and rectum using modern techniques such as laparoscopic and oncoplastic surgeries.

Bone Marrow Transplant Center

Our Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation Center is one of the leading medical institutions in Turkey, providing high-quality services to both local and international patients. The center includes:

Obesity and Bariatric Surgery

What Methods Are Used in Obesity Surgery?

Restrictive Methods

These methods reduce the volume or capacity of the stomach, thereby limiting calorie intake and ensuring early satiety. They include Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB), Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG), Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG), and Gastric Balloon.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

This is a surgical method for treating obesity, used for individuals with comorbidities or patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher. During the procedure, 85% of the stomach is removed, and the remaining portion is reshaped into a tube-like structure. The primary goal of this surgery is to limit the amount of food the stomach can hold.

However, sleeve gastrectomy alone is not a weight-loss method. Postoperative patients must follow a strict diet and exercise program. If they adhere to the prescribed lifestyle changes, they can lose 65-80% of their excess weight within the first year.

Gastric Balloon

The gastric balloon is a non-surgical weight loss method for overweight patients. This procedure involves inserting an air-filled balloon into the stomach via an endoscopic procedure, reducing the stomach’s available space and leading to earlier satiety.

However, patients cannot lose weight solely due to the gastric balloon. As with other bariatric methods, patients must follow an appropriate diet and exercise plan.

The gastric balloon procedure is performed under sedation in the endoscopy unit under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. The patient does not feel anything during the procedure and is discharged within 3-4 hours after the operation.

Malabsorptive Bariatric Methods

These methods reduce calorie intake by limiting nutrient flow and bypassing the absorption site. Examples include Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) and Jejunoileal Bypass.

Combined Methods

These procedures both limit food intake and reduce absorption. Examples include Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) and Duodenal Switch (DS).

In addition to surgical intervention, successful results in obesity treatment can also be achieved with endoscopic methods. Patients concerned about the risks of surgery may prefer gastric balloon placement or endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.

Gastric Bypass

Many methods are used in obesity surgery, but gastric bypass is the most common. It is widely used to treat obesity-related diseases, including Type 2 Diabetes.

Gastric bypass is a procedure that simultaneously limits food intake and prevents its absorption. Since the patient’s stomach volume is reduced after surgery, their desire to eat also decreases, making weight loss more manageable.

The training of maxillofacial surgeons primarily focuses on the hard (bones) and soft (skin, muscles) tissues of the face, mouth, and jaws. Their knowledge and surgical expertise make them highly specialized professionals qualified to diagnose and treat functional and aesthetic disorders in this anatomical area.

COMPLAINT LETTER

I don't usually prefer writing complaints; however, this hospital's past and present experiences have finally made me say "enough is enough."

Previously, I had decided against this hospital, despite it being very close to my home, due to diagnoses and treatments that were not covered by insurance, unnecessary test requests, and a feeling of a commercial rather than a healthcare-oriented approach.

However, last night I went there for a simple procedure like getting an IV drip for the flu, and I regretted it again.

When we entered the emergency room, the inexperienced team that greeted us continued talking amongst themselves without even looking at us. Without being asked about my complaint, they said things like, "Let's send them to Internal Medicine, they're hospitalized there." This approach was both indifferent and extremely unprofessional.

In the Internal Medicine department, after blood tests were done, an IV drip was administered. However, the atmosphere resembled a high school cafeteria rather than a healthcare facility, due to the staff chatting loudly and laughing outside the door. After we told them 15 minutes later that the IV drip wasn't flowing, they came to check; they said it was off, turned it on, and left. After that, no one checked if the IV drip was finished; we had to inform them every time. I felt ashamed that these people are supposed to be healthcare workers and the bright face of this country.

We patiently completed the whole process and returned home. However, the next day, when my wife went to the pharmacy to get the medication, it wasn't given because I was listed as hospitalized in the system. I don't believe this is a mistake.

I had to call the hospital four times to correct the situation. The first call was disconnected. The second call said that they couldn't reach internal medicine either. The third call was disconnected again. After explaining the situation more forcefully on the fourth call, the problem was resolved within 15 minutes.

Having to go through so much communication and follow-up for a simple IV drip is extremely stressful.

Furthermore, I have previously encountered situations such as:
• Unnecessary delays in the pre-authorization processes,
• Irrelevant test requests,
• Attempts to perform procedures with diagnoses that the insurance company would not approve.

I have never had a problem-free experience with this hospital.

I would advise anyone who values their health and budget to think twice before applying to this institution. Translated fromTurkish

Today I had an appointment with the cardiology department at least 4 days in advance. But when I went to the hospital, they said that the supplementary insurance company couldn't provide the pre-authorization right now due to a system problem, and that this problem had been ongoing for 2 days. I went there while fasting during Ramadan, I took time off from work, I wasted fuel driving my car, and during this time I received no information whatsoever. Their solution was to pay 8000 TL to the Social Security Institution (SGK), and then they would refund it when the pre-authorization was issued. They don't trust you; they want payment first. I called the supplementary insurance company, and they said there's no problem, and that a solution could be found over the phone, verbally. But the hospital doesn't accept this either, and it's clear the problem lies with the hospital. So we went to the patient rights department, but their solution was also that the money had to be paid, and for some reason, no official would even speak to us. Apparently, the system works if you have regular, non-supplementary insurance, how interesting, but it doesn't work if you have supplementary insurance 😀. I wasted my entire day without an examination, and wasted fuel on top of that, it was a terrible day. Meanwhile, we almost paid the parking fee too, 150 TL for 1 to 2 hours, at least we arrived at the last minute and didn't have to pay the parking fee. What more can we say... I can't write anything about the doctor because we didn't even see him...

The hospital management can't say: "Maybe you came unprepared, it's our fault, we didn't inform you, we apologize, please get all your examinations and tests done, we'll get a signed document from you, and send us the provision fee when our system problem is resolved."
Anyone who wants to can find a solution. Translated fromTurkish

My experience at this hospital resulted in complete regret and financial loss. I warn those considering going there to protect their budgets and insurance limits.

The summary of the process is as follows:

Financial Loss: I paid a total of 107,000 TL. My entire outpatient treatment limit was completely exhausted during this process.

Unnecessary Tests: When I took the results of the tests that the doctor himself requested, he said, "There's no need to look at these" for some of them. Why were tests that were unnecessary and had no medical basis requested in the first place and made me pay for them?

For some screening results, they said "inconclusive" and asked me to repeat them after 3 months. Instead of making a clear diagnosis in a process that cost 107,000 TL, the process is being delayed.

Tragicomical Outcome: After all those expensive tests and screenings, the doctor's only advice was, "Your vitamin D is low, raise it and we'll check again." Was it really necessary to exhaust all my insurance limits and spend 107,000 TL just to understand my vitamin D deficiency?

I saw a commercial approach rather than a healthcare service. I don't know whether to be upset about the fact that the radioactive scans yielded no results, the money I spent, my exhausted insurance limit, or my wasted time. I definitely do not recommend it! Translated fromTurkish

STAY AWAY!!
We have been coming to this hospital as a family for years, but for the last few months, regardless of whether it's an outpatient clinic or not, we've been encountering problems like appointments piled up at the same time, inpatient and outpatient appointments clashing, as if we have nothing else to do. We wait for hours at every appointment. Their systems are very slow; getting insurance approval takes over 30 minutes. The caregivers and nurses forget that this is a hospital and spray on cheap, fake perfumes... nobody cares about allergy sufferers. This is a hospital! I won't even mention the emergency room; they direct you from one place to another in your sick state, you have to get your ID from upstairs and come back down to the emergency room, etc. In short, neither I, nor my family, nor my friends will ever set foot here again. And I will not tire of complaining as much as I can. Translated fromTurkish

We met Dr. Sema Yılmaz during my second pregnancy through the recommendation of friends, and we're so glad we did. My first pregnancy was a Cesarean section, and we wanted a natural birth for my second, but many doctors were scaring us and making us pessimistic with comments about risks and harm. However, Dr. Sema managed our process beautifully, especially during the delivery, where she and her team made everything easy for us. All our doubts about vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC) disappeared. We need more doctors like her who love their work and care about their patients. Thank you, Dr. Sema YILMAZ. I first entered the hospital through the emergency room on February 1, 2026. The doctor there, being a foreigner, spoke very poor Turkish, making communication very difficult. They then referred me to a general surgeon, saying there was one available. After a long wait, Dr. Yüksel Baldan arrived in the control room. He questioned our presence, asking who the patient was and, in a sexist manner, said, "There's a female patient, send a female doctor," while holding his phone. When the student doctor arrived, she informed us that we could leave after the examination and that waiting was unnecessary. Female doctors are not there to examine female patients, nor are student doctors there to be exploited; they are there to gain knowledge and receive training. A doctor should not make a patient wait simply because they are a woman. At the end of the day, a walnut-sized mass was detected in the left abdominal area during the physical examination. It was reported that this mass was not visible on the CT scan, but that it was physically present. There was absolutely no effort to investigate further or find the root cause. Translated fromTurkish

We came to your hospital and the staff were extremely surly and unhelpful. Despite this, we made an appointment with Dr. Abdullah for surgery because they recommended him. My wife has a broken jawbone and we are waiting for surgery, and they cancelled our Friday surgery because the doctor was on leave. Their tone of voice was as if we were dependent on them, implying there was nothing they could do. Even though I work at Acıbadem myself, we came for the doctor, but it was absolutely not worth it. This is not how a doctor should behave. What does it mean to be on leave when a surgery is scheduled? That's not an explanation. I absolutely do not recommend this hospital or its doctors.
